Manchester United have turned their attention to a new striking target and are considering activating his £44million release clause, reports in Italy have claimed.

The Red Devils are in the midst of a crucial summer rebuild following their worst-ever Premier League campaign and are keen to bolster an attack that has faltered for a number of years.

Ruben Amorim's men have been linked with several strikers across Europe but deals for the likes of Viktor Gykorers, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike are complicated to complete, given the financial packages involved and the club's failure to secure European football.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, United have been keeping tabs on another forward currently plying his trade in Serie A with Premier League experience.

The outlet claims that the Red Devils 'closely monitored' Fiorentina striker Moise Kean during the 2024-25 campaign - a comeback year for the Italian forward after disappointing spells with Everton and Juventus

Furthermore, it is implied that United have been sufficiently satisfied with what they observed and are now considering activating a €52m (£44m) release clause in the 21-time Italian international's contract.

Manchester United are reported to have 'closely monitored' Moise Kean last season and are considering activating his release clause

The 25-year-old enjoyed a comeback year after disappointing spells with Everton, Juventus and PSG

Ruben Amorim is desperate to bolster his attack following a season in which the Red Devils scored just 44 goals in the league

However, the club will need to move swiftly, as the report states that the clause is only valid between July 1 and July 15 this summer.

A move for the 25-year-old would be a surprising one, even after his impressive season in Tuscany in which he netted 25 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions. He ended the campaign as the second-highest scorer in the Italian top flight with 19 goals.

It was a startling improvement to the production he had shown in recent years at Juventus, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain.

For the Toffees, Kean scored just four goals in 39 appearances, while his record in Turin - during his second spell which began in 2021 - stood at a meagre 14 in 92 matches.

The addition of a striker with the ability of Kean for the reported price would represent good value in a congested market for forwards. United were beaten to the signing of Liam Delap by Chelsea earlier in the window and have also reportedly been snubbed by Gykorers.

The club does not appear to be in the position to spend large sums on a new attacker, given their outlay on Matheus Cunha, who arrived from Wolves for £62m and the deal they are currently brokering with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo.

United saw a £55m bid rejected by the Bees earlier this month but remain confident of landing the 25-year-old, who notched 20 league goals last term.
