England squad announcement LIVE: Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden AND Jack Grealish are ALL axed by Thomas Tuchel in shocking squad selection

Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog as Thomas Tuchel names his Three Lions squad for the October international break.

Tuchel: 'This group set the standards'

Thomas Tuchel, England manager:

It's only three weeks since the last camp. We had a winning last performance so the question was why not bring the same group in because they set the standards and now it's about creating habits out of it.
We have two injuries with Tino and Noni and we bring Bukayo Saka in to replace Noni and Jarrell Quansah was a late call up last time. He will stay in camp.

No Wharton

Now this may be the move that shocks me the most.

Thomas Tuchel has decided not to call up Adam Wharton, despite the midfielder being back fit and firing for Crystal Palace.

I covered the Liverpool game at Selhurst Park last week, and Wharton made the Premier League-winning midfield look daft. He was dunking on them all game.

I find it hard to believe that Thomas Tuchel watched that display and decided to select Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jordan Henderson over him.

No slight on the other players, but Wharton really should be getting in that squad.

He is a baller.

Two changes from last squad

Thomas Tuchel hasn't exactly changed much.

In fact, there are only two new players from the squad that was selected for the clashes with Andorra and Serbia in September.

Both Tino Livramento and Noni Madueke miss out due to knee injuries, so Jarell Quansah and Bukayo Saka replace them.

I have to admit, I'm a little surprised Qunsah got the nod.

Big trio AXED

Well, I have to say, I'm surprised..

I thought that maybe one or two of the terrific trio wouldn't make it, but all three, wow.

Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish were once all-star boys of this England team, and nobody could imagine the squad without them. How times have changed.

I think the big one is Bellingham, though.

The midfielder has returned from injury and is finally getting minutes for Real Madrid again. You'd think he'd be a staple when fit.

But for Tuchel, he isn't fit enough...

England squad announced

Wow.

Thomas Tuchel's mother must have been in his ear again because he has not included Jude Bellingham.

That's a shock, a real shock.

There is no Phil Foden either, while Jordan Henderson keeps his place in the squad.

Exclusive:Tuchel snubs Grealish

Well then...

Jack Grealish may be tearing things up for Everton, but his resurgence hasn't impressed Thomas Tuchel enough yet.

Personally, I think it's the wrong call, but then again, what would I know?

If Grealish keeps playing as well as he is on Merseyside, it won't be long until Tuchel can't ignore him anymore.

The 30-year-old has flourished since sealing a loan move from Manchester City to Merseyside and recently said to be back enjoying his football.

Breaking:Grealish not selected

Jack Gaughan, Daily Mail Sport Reporter:

Jack Grealish’s resurgence at Everton has not yet yielded an England recall, with the Everton winger missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s latest squad. The 30-year-old has flourished since sealing a loan move from Manchester City to Merseyside and recently said to be back enjoying his football.
Grealish has registered four assists in six Premier League matches under David Moyes after struggling for game time at City last season. Grealish admitted earlier in the week that he didn’t help himself at the Etihad Stadium but has since appeared rejuvenated.
That has not translated to an England call up from Tuchel though, with Grealish informed on Friday morning that he was missing out on the German’s fourth international camp.

In-form Foden

Another player who has been pushing for an international return is Phil Foden.

After having a rather poor campaign last year, Foden is starting to resemble the player who was the best in the Premier League in 2024.

He bagged his usual goal in the Manchester derby last month, while he scored a screamer in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield.

Now, do I think he deserves a call-up? Not particularly.

Yes, Foden is growing in confidence again, but a couple of goals shouldn't be enough for him to be chucked back into the set-up.

But you never know, Thomas Tuchel may see it differently.

Bellingham wins England Player of the Year?

Let's take a quick detour from the squad chat.

Well, I say it's a detour, but I do believe it is relevant. It's to do with Jude Bellingham... everyone loves a bit of Bellingham chat.

Now, there will of course be questions over whether Bellingham will return to the squad, but that's not what I am going to talk about.

The midfielder has just been named England Player of the Year.

I mean, I couldn't think of many worthier candidates when it comes to exploits for the Three Lions.

If it were based on club form, though, it would be a different story.

Has Grealish done enough?

Is this the day Jack Grealish returns to international football?

The winger has been back to his very best since joining Everton on loan. He is strutting those big calves again while in blue.

Honestly, the bloke has been brilliant this season.

Surely, he has had to have come into Thomas Tuchel's mind when he has thought about this squad. I'd be stunned if he wasn't even an option.

But then again, there are a lot of talented players in his position, so it is very possible he hasn't done enough to return to England just yet.

We will have to wait and see.

England's injury list

Thomas Tuchel may have a talented pool of players to choose from, but he does have some selection headaches due to injury.

Annoyingly for the German, there are a fair few players who are on the physio table right now.

Here is England's injury list:

  • Tino Livramento
  • Noni Madueke
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold
  • Cole Palmer
  • Levi Colwill
  • Jarrad Branthwaite
  • James Maddison
  • Dominic Solanke

Who do you want to see in the squad?

Thomas Tuchel has some big calls to make...

Does he include Jude Bellingham after his recovery from injury? Has Phil Foden done enough to earn a place?

What about Jack Grealish? Cole Palmer? Bukayo Saka?

I think you catch my drift. There are numerous players that Thomas Tuchel can choose from, despite the numerous injuries.

Personally, out of that list, I can't see Palmer being fit enough for selection, having missed the last couple of Chelsea games.

But anyway, who do you want to see selected?

Plan of action

I have just told you how today is going to go, but I'm going to be kind and inform you in a more structured way.

I know, I know, I'm such a kind soul, you don't have to praise me too much (unless you want to).

Here is the schedule for the day:

  • England squad announcement - 10am
  • Thomas Tuchel press conference - 11am

Who will Tuchel pick?

It's that time again.

Yep, it's not long until the dreaded international break. Scary, right? It's almost like the 'Sunday scaries' you get before work every week, but just the football version.

Premier League football will be parked for two weeks while England take on both Wales, in a friendly, and Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.

The games are not for another week, but today, manager Thomas Tuchel will announce his squad for those two games.

Will we see Jack Grealish recalled? Will Bukayo Saka return?

These are all questions that are set to be answered at 10pm, before a press conference at 11pm.

Sit tight with me until then, and I will try to make this fun.
