Legendary broadcaster Al Michaels puzzled fans on Thursday night as he referred to the Eagles 'trade' for ex-Giants star Saquon Barkley.

Barkley, of course, won a Super Bowl in his first season with Philly after six years in New York.

But the running back joined the Eagles in free agency rather than being traded there, and fans quickly pointed out the mistake that Michaels, 80, had made on at least two occasions during the Prime Video broadcast of the Eagles-Giants game.

'Somebody tell Al Michaels that Barkley was signed as a free agent. It's at least twice now that he said he was traded to the Eagles. He's got trade on the brain,' one said.

'Trade? Long past time for Al Michaels to hang it up,' a second said more harshly.

'A lot of seniors forget things,' a third joked.

And a fourth cracked: 'new drinking game: take a shot every time Al Michaels says 'the saquon barkley trade.'

According to Awful Announcing, Michaels did address his mistake on the broadcast of the game.

'I said a trade; he signed as a free agent. The Giants only wish they'd gotten something for him,' Michaels said of the All-Pro running back.

Following a year-plus of contract negotiations and being franchise tagged in 2023, Barkley ultimately left the Giants as a free agent in the summer of 2024.

The running back joined the Eagles on a three-year, $37.75million deal including $26million.

He was later rewarded with a two-year, $41million extension following the Eagles' Super Bowl triumph and a record-breaking season, in which he ran for 2,504 yards across the regular season and playoffs.

While Michaels was incorrect about the running back being traded, the former Penn State did try to explore a deal at one point.

As revealed in the new 'Saquon' documentary about him, which the New York Post reported on, Barkley actually asked for permission to seek a trade in July 2023.

However, Giants owner John Mara denied Barkley permission as he went on to play one final season in New York.

On Thursday, Barkley was not quite at his explosive best as he was held to just 58 rushing yards on only 12 attempts.

He also added two catches for nine yards as his former team beat the Eagles 34-17 at home.
