Wisconsin and their quarterback Billy Edwards have gotten an update following his non-contact knee injury on Thursday night - and both will be relieved by the news.

Edwards went down with the injury after handing the ball off in the Badgers' season opener against Miami of Ohio.

The quarterback was then sidelined for the rest of the game as backup Danny O'Neil stepped in.

And while there fears that Edwards could miss the rest of the year with the injury, he is reportedly 'week-to-week' following a 'clean' MRI, according to ESPN.

The report named Edwards' injury as a sprained knee, which is far less severe than the torn ACL which cost Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke nearly the entire season last year.

Edwards went down during the second quarter against the RedHawks, but was seen on the sideline (out of his uniform) during the remainder of Wisconsin's 17-0 win.

The Maryland transfer arrived in Wisconsin after playing in three seasons for the Terrapins, including making 11 starts last year and averaging 261.9 passing yards per game.

He was replaced on Thursday by fellow transfer O'Neil, who performed admirably at Camp Randall in his first game since he arrived from San Diego State.

O'Neil completed 12 of 19 passes for 120 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Edwards, meanwhile, completed six of 13 passes for 68 yards before going down with his injury.

The Badgers will be expected to get by next week without Edwards when they host Middle Tennessee, but there are some much harder matchups looming.

They will travel to Tuscaloosa on September 13 to face Alabama, before beginning their Big Ten conference schedule against Maryland, Michigan and Iowa.

Wisconsin is looking to bounce back after going just 5-7 last year.

Head coach Luke Fickell has just a 14-13 record since taking over in 2022 prior to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
