Dave Portnoy has taken aim at Bernie Sanders for failing to congratulate Donald Trump over the historic deal he brokered for peace in Gaza.

Trump successfully negotiated a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas this week to end the two-year war in the Middle East, with both sides agreeing to the first phase of his plan to pause fighting and release hostages.

The agreement could open the way to ending a brutal conflict that has killed tens of thousands of people and unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe, marking a significant breakthrough for the President.

Despite the groundbreaking deal, Sanders hit out at Trump on the latest episode of his 'Bernie' podcast on Thursday, describing him as a 'demagogue' who places the blame for America's issues on 'powerless minorities.'

'The entire media structure is saying, "Well, it's the fault of the undocumented people. So we're going to throw them all out and we're going to make life miserable for them. Thank God my life is going to improve,"' the socialist and independent senator said. 'That is not only what oligarchy is about, it's what demagogues do. And that is what Trumpism is in spades.'

Portnoy led the criticism of Sanders after his latest attack on Trump, deploring him for failing to commend him over the Gaza peace agreement.

What a funny way to congratulate Trump for negotiating Peace in the Middle East. By all accounts one of the most successful things any politician has done in recent memory and my man Bernie hasn’t mentioned it once. It’s just tough to take anything these people say seriously. https://t.co/M71C3rd6jU

'What a funny way to congratulate Trump for negotiating Peace in the Middle East,' the Barstool Sports founder said on X. 'By all accounts one of the most successful things any politician has done in recent memory and my man Bernie hasn’t mentioned it once. It’s just tough to take anything these people say seriously.'

Golf legend Phil Mickelson echoed Portnoy's sentiment, writing sarcastically: 'And thank you for bringing the hostages home and the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. (you left that part out)'.

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect in Gaza on Friday, the military said, hours after Israel's Cabinet approved a deal to pause the fighting and exchange the remaining hostages for Palestinian prisoners.

Tens of thousands of people who had gathered in Wadi Gaza in central Gaza started walking north after the Israeli military's announcement at noon local time. Beforehand, Palestinians reported heavy shelling in parts of Gaza throughout Friday morning, but no significant bombardment was reported after.

Trump claims he will travel to the Middle East 'very soon' but that the timing and details were still being worked out .

'It's really peace in the Middle East,' he said on Thursday while noting that he had proved the skeptics wrong after they believed he would never reach a deal.

The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage.

In Israel's ensuing offensive, more than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and nearly 170,000 wounded, according to Gaza's Health Ministry, which doesn´t differentiate between civilians and combatants but says around half the deaths were women and children. The ministry is part of the Hamas-run government, and the United Nations and many independent experts consider its figures to be the most reliable estimate of wartime casualties.

The war has also triggered other conflicts in the region, sparked worldwide protests and led to allegations of genocide that Israel denies.

Under the deal negotiated by Trump, Israeli troops are withdrawing to new positions in Gaza, and all 48 hostages still in captivity are expected to be released. Israel believes around 20 of them are alive. In exchange, Israel will release around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
