Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Chelsea travel to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, with Oliver Holt and Kieran Gill reporting from the ground.

Goal:Bayern1-0 Chelsea (OG Chalobah 21')

Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

Finally, some good play from Bayern. Diaz teases the Chelsea defence on the left before playing a ball into the middle where Gnabry fired from range but his effort was blocked at source. Much better from the home side.

Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

Joe Cole gave Palmer the big build-up pre-match and he's enjoying himself so far. The Blues are always looking to find their talisman on the right and he's making stuff happen at the minute.

Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

A couple of shots in anger from Bayern show that they are growing into the game a touch but it's still not really good enough by the Germans. Chelsea are still finding all sorts of joy down the right with Palmer.

Looks like it's a matter of time until they break the deadlock.

Gill: 'Palmer's pass deserved more'

By Kieran Gill At Allianz Arena

Exquisite pass from Cole Palmer which deserved an assist, if only Enzo Fernandez had finished it like he should have.

BIG CHANCE! Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea carve Bayern open with will and fashion a chance down the right with Palmer, who finds Fernandez in the middle but the Argentine opts to try and control when he should have had a shot.

Chance gone but it's more encouraging signs for the visitors.

Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

It's been a pretty even start but one that Maresca and Chelsea will likely be most happy with. The Blues have looked threatening on the ball and they've managed to keep the home side very quiet.

Gill: 'Marc Cucurella versus Michael Olise'

By Kieran Gill At Allianz Arena

Marc Cucurella versus Michael Olise ought to be a fascinating battle. Cucurella has pocketed a fair few players in his time, but Olise, as we know, can be a world-class winger.

CHANCE! Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea have started brightly here. Sanchez plays a great ball into Guston who looked to find Neto in the centre but the Bayern defence did just enough to smother the chance.

Chelsea do get a throw in but they were calling for a penalty. Think this one will be waved away.

KICK-OFF: Bayern 0-0 Chelsea

And we are underway! Bayern get the action started in Bavaria. Let's hope we're in for a good one.

Gill: 'Chelsea have missed that music'

By Kieran Gill At Allianz Arena

Chelsea have missed that Champions League music. The away supporters up in the heavens are trying to make themselves heard, but that's hard against the tens of thousands of Germans who are all singing at the top of their lungs also.

Time for the action

Alright, enough of all this chat. The game is about to get underway. The players are about to come out of the tunnel under the lights at the magnificent Allianz.

Maresca: 'As a Chelsea manager or player, you have a duty to try to win every game'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, TNT Sports:

I feel pressure, for sure, as a Chelsea manager or player, you have a duty to try to win every game. We’re under pressure too and we’re going to try to win.

Top FIVE in the world?!

Think you've gone a bit strong there, Joe. But to each his own. Cole Palmer is unquestionably a top player but I feel like everyone has conveniently forgotten the pretty rotten run of form he's had for most of this year.

Where is the aura?

Calling all Gen Alphas...

Is the rabona the aura? I'm confused. Maybe that means I'm too old.

Gill: 'Enzo Maresca does have a favoured XI, after all'

By Kieran Gill At Allianz Arena

Enzo Maresca does have a favoured XI, after all, as he's named the same line-up that faced Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final, minus the injured Levi Colwill. Tosin Adarabioyo steps in for Colwill.
That means we should be seeing Cole Palmer on the right wing and drifting inside when Malo Gusto overlaps him.

Holt: 'Too immature in his play to be a starter'

By Oliver Holt At Allianz Arena

Garnacho on the bench for Chelsea, which is about right. Fine player but too immature in his play to be a starter.

Flashback to 2012

I mentioned it earlier but here's some footage of that Champions League final back in 2012. I feel like Cech doesn't get enough credit for his contribution to this victory.

My memory always goes to Drogba with the winning penalty and the goal at the end of normal time but Cech came in clutch for the English side that night.

Warm-ups underway at the Allianz

Head to Head

Bayern Munich have become something of a Champions League nemesis for Chelsea.

The German giants have won three of the last four meetings between the sides in Europe’s top competition, drawing the other and famously losing on penalties in the 2012 final and were ruthless the last time they crossed paths.

In the 2019-20 last-16 tie Bayern swept Chelsea aside 3-0 at Stamford Bridge before completing the job 4-1 back in Munich.

For Chelsea the numbers make grim reading. They have lost 60 per cent of their European Cup/Champions League games against Bayern (one win, one draw, three defeats) - their highest loss rate against any opponent they have faced at least five times in the competition.

Only Barcelona, with four victories, have beaten the Blues more often than Bayern’s three in Europe’s premier club tournament.

A peek inside the dressing rooms

Maresca: 'Last year, we were in the Conference League'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, pre-match presser:

One year ago we were playing the Conference League playoff so we are happy to be here.

Big night for Manuel

Manuel Neuer is on the brink of another Champions League milestone. The Bayern Munich captain sits on 99 victories in Europe’s elite competition, with only three players ever reaching the century mark — Cristiano Ronaldo (115), Thomas Müller (111) and Iker Casillas (101).

The 38-year-old has already rewritten the record books between the posts. Neuer has kept more clean sheets than any goalkeeper in the competition’s history (60) and made more saves too (413).

His longevity is just as impressive, with 150 appearances placing him eighth on the all-time list.

Anticipation building in Munich

Not long left until the action gets underway in Bavaria and both sets of fans are getting in the mood. The last Champions League match staged at the Allianz was last season's final. Doubt we'll see such a one-sided clash here but you never know.

Tonight's Champions League action

Hadn't even filled you in on tonight's slate. How rude of me! There were two wins for the two English team who go their campaigns underway yesterday, and Chelsea and Liverpool will be desperate to keep up that trend if they want to make sure the Premier League has an extra spot again this year.

Bayern's CRAZY group-stage stats

These come courtesy of the fantastic Opta and really show how imperious the German side have been in the first round of the European Cup for more than two decades.

  • Since 2003-04 when the second group stage was removed, Bayern have the highest win percentage in the group/league phase of the Champions League (73%), winning 93 of their 128 matches outside of the knockout stages.
  • They have only lost one of their last 11 home games against English sides in the Champions League (W8 D2), with that defeat coming against Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in March 2019 (3-1).
  • Bayern have beaten five different English sides in this run, including Chelsea (also W3 vs Arsenal, W1 vs Manchester City, W2 vs Manchester United and W1 vs Tottenham Hotspur).

He could have been sitting at home watching tonight's game. Instead, he'll be sitting on the bench.

Bayern are in the house

They all look like they've just been told off. Anyways, the Bayern lot are in the building, ready for duty ahead of what we hope is going to be a thrilling clash.

Gill: 'Milestone appearance for Cole Palmer'

By Kieran Gill At Allianz Arena

Cole Palmer starts on his 100th appearance for Chelsea. He and his team-mates are out on the pitch taking a look at the Allianz Arena. Palmer just had to dash out of the way of the rotating sprinklers as they threatened to give him an early shower.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Jackson is on the bench for Bayern Munich.

Malouda: ' I wouldn't be satisfied with a semi-final finish'

By Tum Balogun

As a Chelsea fan, I expect the team to be fearless, like they were in the Club World Cup.
That's all I expect from my team. I wouldn't be satisfied with a semi-final finish because when you start a competition, your aim is to win. If there's an opportunity, you have to go all in.

Bayern Team News

Jackson is going to have to wait for his shot at redemption against his parent club. Not much else to report from the Germans, who have some frightening weapons in attack.

Ulreich, Urbíg, Minjae, Goretzka, Jackson, Bischof, Boey, Kiala, Karl, Santos

Chelsea team news: Palmer STARTS

Kompany: 'You don't make too much distinction between Chelsea and the absolute top teams in England'

Vincent Kompany, Bayern boss, TNT Sports:

When you look at Chelsea now, especially after the Club World Cup, I don’t think you make too much distinction between Chelsea and the absolute top teams in England, so they’re back there.
The advantage you have with young players is that where they are today, tomorrow they’ll always be better. If they’ve got good habits, if they’ve got a good environment, that’s what happens with a top mindset.
I think that’s the hidden strength of Chelsea, they’ve got a team that’s on a pathway that will keep going up. We’ve got the advantage, of course, of being at home and having a team with experience.

How many goals has Harry Kane scored for Bayern?

...the answer is 93 in 101 GAMES!

I do feel for the England skipper sometimes. He scores all these goals, is now winning trophies, but we don't really care because he's doing it in Germany.

The man is closing in on 100 goals for Bayern Munich and this is the start of his third season with the club. Oh, and he's scored 11 in 10 this term. That's mental.

Maresca: 'I didn't have any kind of problem with Nicolas'

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea boss, pre-match presser:

'I didn't have any kind of problem with Nicolas and I don't have any problem with Nicolas. 'Again, he is a good guy, good professional, works well with us and that's it.'

Awkward...

Nicolas Jackson can play against Chelsea tonight. And I, for one, am very happy about that. The Senegalese striker secured a somewhat acrimonious departure on loan from the London club at the end of the transfer window.

And despite still being on Chelsea's books, he can turn out for the German side tonight. That's because of a wonderful UEFA rule in their 'Statement on Integrity of Competitions'.

It means that clubs are not able to insert clauses that prevent their own players from facing them in Europe. The rule reads that clubs cannot apply 'any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may [or may not] field in a match.'

Happy memories of Munich

I'm sure I don't need to remind you of this Chelsea fans, but Bavaria holds a lot fo special memories for the Blues, given that it was the location of their first-ever European Cup win.

In 2012, Frank Lampard and Co claimed a scarcely believable victory in their opponents' backyard and I don't think Bayern have ever really gotten over that defeat.

How good are you really?

That's the pertinent question for me coming into this heavyweight clash between Bayern Munich and Chelsea at the Allianz Arena.

Both these sides will be desperate to prove that they have what I takes to go deep in this competition this year. The home side have made a devastating start to the season domestically, and Chelsea, even after their draw with Brentford last time out, are many people's dark horses to claim some major silverware this term.

It's all set up for a thrilling clash and we'll be here with you every step of the way as the Champions League fun continues across Europe.

The clash in Bavaria gets underway at 8pm but if Bayern-Chelsea isn't your thing, you can always hop on over to our other live blog covering Liverpool's clash against Atletico Madrid.

Ahead of kick-off, we'll have team news, manager quotes and much more so let's get to it!
