Ange Postecoglou has given an insight into his relationship with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Postecoglou joined Nottingham Forest last week and getting on with the club's vociferous chief will be key to success at the City Ground.

His predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo was ousted after a breakdown in relations with Marinakis, having criticised the club's transfer policy and admitted his bond with the Greek was 'not so good'.

Forest suffered a 3-0 lashing at Arsenal in Postecoglou's first game in charge but he will have a chance to turn things around at Swansea on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup third round.

While he is yet to meet Mariankis since his appointment, Postecoglou insists things are getting on just fine.

'I’ve not seen him but he’s reached out since the Arsenal game,’ he said.

Ange Postecoglou says Evangelos Marinakis has been 'really supportive' since he joined Nottingham Forest

The duo met in July, when Marinakis presented Postecoglou with an award

‘Everyone has been really supportive, including him. He knows the challenge that’s before us and he’s very ambitious.

'He’s supported the previous managers and that’s all you can ask for. I know I will be supported and hopefully I can repay that.’

Nuno might not necessarily agree with that assessment, having told Sky Sports before the season that his squad was 'unbalanced' and 'very, very far' from being ready.

In any case, Postecoglou is relieved to be at Forest for another reason: it gets him out of awkward encounters at the school gate.

'Between 3 and 4, I'm the happiest I am [because I don’t have to do the school run],’ he quipped.

'‘It certainly gives you a perspective, that's for sure. When people say, “you copped some abuse on the touchline, people look at you threateningly”… I say, "well that's exactly the same as the school run". Absolutely no different!

The 60-year-old also suggested he could give opportunities to players who arrived in August, offering a home to stars such as Omari Hutchinson, a club record signing at £37.5millon.

The 21-year-old winger came on late in the final two games under Nuno Espirito Santo – who then left him out of the club’s squad for the Europa League.

‘I think new players want to play,’ said Postecoglou. 'Some have arrived late in the window or just not had an opportunity to play and they need to.

'They’re good players and they want to show what they can do. They want to kickstart their Forest careers and tomorrow is a great chance to do that.’
