Steven Gerrard has been tipped to become the next Wrexham manager after their disappointing start to life in the Championship.
Gerrard left Saudi club Al-Ettifaq in January 2025 after 18 months in charge and has been out of work ever since. He had been set to stay until 2027 after signing a contract extension in 2024 but departed midway through the season.
Al-Ettifaq underperformed during his tenure, winning just five of 17 games and sitting 12th in a 16-team league, narrowly above the relegation zone.
Prior to that, Gerrard enjoyed success at Rangers, leading them to an unbeaten league campaign and their first Scottish title in a decade in 2020-21 before moving to the Premier League with Aston Villa.
Gerrard is now being linked with a move to Wrexham, with Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believing he would be the right fit.
After three consecutive promotions between 2022 and 2025, Wrexham have attracted attention and raised speculation about the true level of their ability.

Wrexham have made a poor start to the season and sit 21st after registering just one win in their opening five matches
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes that the Welsh club would be a good fit for Gerrard
That has been tested early in their Championship campaign, with only one win from five games despite a £33million summer spend. They sit 21st in the table and have slipped into the relegation zone at the start of the season.
Robson believes Gerrard’s experience could be a solution but stresses it should not come at the expense of Phil Parkinson’s job, noting his role in leading Wrexham to successive promotions. He also expressed confidence that Gerrard would be interested in the position if it became available.
Speaking to OLBG, Robson said: ‘It’s whether Stevie wants to get back into the game. I mean, he’s had a good experience now in Saudi, but you know a job like that would definitely interest him if he does want to go back into management.
‘I think Wrexham at this moment of time should give Phil a bit more time because he has done a great job for them. They’ve done fantastic to get where they are from where they were to get into the Championship in a short period of time.
‘For me, if they can consolidate in the Championship, even if they finish mid-table, that would be a really good season from where they’ve come from.’
‘The charisma that the US lads have is fantastic, and the good thing about Wrexham, they’ve got a good fan base that’ll get right behind them so there’ll always be a good atmosphere within the stadium.’
‘Then with the sponsorship Ryan Reynolds has brought in too, that can only hold the club in good stead.’
Wrexham travel to Norwich in the Championship on Saturday before hosting Reading in the third round of the EFL Cup three days later.
