Cam Ward exploded at Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy as the No 1 draft pick's frustrations boiled over on Sunday.

Quarterback Ward has been tasked with leading Tennessee into a new era but it has been a tough start to life in the NFL for the former Miami standout.

The Titans are now 1-7 after they were beaten by the Indianapolis Colts and cameras caught Ward losing his temper during the 38-14 loss.

In a clip that soon went viral on social media, the quarterback could be seen barracking McCoy on the sideline.

Tempers flared during the third quarter, with the Titans trailing 17-7. From the Colts' 42-yard line, Tennessee chose to punt rather than gamble on fourth down.

'What the f*** are we doing, Mike?' Ward appeared to shout. 'Go for it!'

'What the f*** are we doing, Mike?' Ward appeared to shout after McCoy opted to punt the ball

Johnny Hekker's punt went just 22 yards before Colts running back Jonathan Taylor ran for an 80-yard touchdown on the very next play.

After the game, Ward addressed his outburst. He maintained that it was a 'missed opportunity' to get a first down.

'I think I'm a competitor,' the quarterback said. 'Our whole offense is like that. Our whole defense is like that.'

Ward added: 'I just think the biggest thing is we want to be an aggressive team. Especially with the record we have right now, we have to be an aggressive team at the end of the season to get where we want to be.'

But Ward conceded that he and his teammates should not have given Callahan a decision to make.

'We should get the first down on third down,' he said. '[But] I just think it's a missed opportunity for us as a team to get a first down and keep the drive moving. We weren't down that much at that time.'

He added: 'We're going to always support whatever decision is made, but at the end of the day, we shouldn't put ourselves in that position.'

McCoy was named interim head coach after Brian Callahan became the first NFL head coach to be fired this season.

'I'm a competitor,' the quarterback said when asked about his outburst after the game

McCoy's second game ended in a heavy loss that leaves the Titans bottom of the AFC South. They are one of just three teams to have a 1-7 record.

The Jets ended their winless streak with a dramatic late victory over the Bengals, while the New Orleans Saints remain on just one victory for the season, too.

The Colts, on the other hand, moved to 7-1 with their 38-14 win over fellow AFC South side the Titans.

Taylor ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries and also caught one of Daniel Jones’ three touchdown passes.
