Working in the California sun sounds great, but there are downsides for the follically challenged, as San Diego State football coach Sean Lewis learned this week.
Before Lewis' Aztecs cruised to a 23-0 road win over in-state rival Fresno State on Saturday, FS1 cameras noticed the formation of a bizarre cranial melanogenesis pattern, or, as FS1 play-by-play announcer Noah Reed called it: 'One of the most insane tan lines I've ever seen.'
'There's a look at Sean Lewis,' Reed said during the first quarter as FS1 showed Lewis wearing a hat on the sidelines. 'Looks normal, right? College football head coach.'
FS1 then cut to a pre-game image of the bald, hatless Lewis, whose reddening scalp bore the same pattern as the pattern as his mesh SDSU cap.
'Well, he's got a hat on, because pregame, this is what he looked like,' Reed continued, as FS1 provided a pregame look at Lewis' tan line.
Fans were equally fixated, with one writing on X: 'Tried not to laugh... failed miserably.'
Sean Lewis' tan line didn't go unnoticed during Saturday's win over Fresno State

Golf fans online were reminded of bald former British Open champion Stewart Cink, who frequently battled similar problems while wearing a hat on tour.
'Stuart Cink says hold my beer,' one fan jokes online.
Lewis' tan line was far more intricate than Cink's due to the negative spaces in his perforated mesh hat.
Fortunately for Lewis, that was probably the worst part of his Saturday as Aztecs running back Lucky Sutton gained 131 yards and a touchdown in the shutout win.
With the victory, San Diego State took home bragging rights - and the oil can that serves as the trophy for this rivalry series.
'The oil can is coming home where it belongs,' Lewis told reporters afterwards. 'Thank goodness some of the best players in San Diego have stayed home, right?
'The best players in San Diego need to continue to stay home. Really, really proud of our team. Really proud of the effort. … It's great to go bowling, great to get a rivalry win, great to be undefeated at home, and excited to see a soldout Snapdragon when we get home for homecoming.'
San Diego State (6-1, 3-0 Mountain West) will now host Wyoming next week.
