Shaquille O'Neal has gone viral after showing off his 'shooting' skills - but not the type of 'shooting' that you'd expect from the NBA legend.

The former Los Angeles Lakers star was spotted on set for TV show 'Gravesend', in footage obtained by TMZ, in yet another career venture away from basketball.

In a clip captured by the outlet, O'Neal - who was dressed like a mob boss - was seen turning a corner, brandishing a gun and firing shots at a man laying on the ground.

It goes without saying that the NBA legend didn't fire real shots at his fellow actor and instead, in the clip, a 'click' sound could be heard as he pulled the trigger.

The man on the ground could be heard shouting expletives towards O'Neal before the former Laker ruthlessly shot his gang rival in the show.

The outlet claim that O'Neal will be taking on the character of 'Mustafa' in the hit series, which has entered it's third season.

The NBA legend was also seen in another scene of the show talking with a man on a pier

His cameo on 'Gravesend' is just the latest venture away from the basketball court for O'Neal

He landed the role after telling director William DeMeo about his love for the show's first two seasons and is set to become a regular feature.

The show centers around a Brooklyn based Italian-American, soldier in the Colezzo crime family who has to deal with a cousin who is the leader of a criminal organization in Gravesend.

In another clip, O'Neal was seen in a far less intense setting, as he spoke with a fellow mob boss on a pier.

NBA Hall of Famer O'Neal, 53, has kept busy in retirement as an analyst on TNT's Inside the NBA - but took up a surprise new role back in April.

The Lakers icon accepted a voluntary role as the general manager of Sacramento State's men's basketball team, the Daily Mail confirmed.
