He led the Rangers to the 1972 Stanley Cup final, where they were beaten by the Boston Bruins in six games.
A NHL Alumni Association spokesperson said the organization learned from a board member of the Detroit Red Wings alumni that Giacomin died at his home Sunday night.
'Eddie Giacomin was an integral member of the New York Rangers for a decade and personified what being a Ranger is all about, both to his teammates and the Blueshirts faithful,' the team said in a statement posted on social media.
