George Kittle has revealed Travis Kelce's trick for dealing with nerves at next week's showdown of celebrity golfers: alcohol.

The 49ers tight end will make his debut at this year's American Century Championship, which draws some of the biggest names in sports and showbiz to Tahoe.

Kittle will compete against the likes of Travis and Jason Kelce, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Steph Curry in the three-day event.

The 49ers star admitted his 'anxiety couldn't be any higher' but fellow tight end Kelce recently offered his advice for how to settle his stress levels.

'Travis told me to have a few drinks before the first tee box so I'm not too nervous,' Kittle said.

'My anxiety couldn't be any higher. I've actually been trying my best. I've been playing golf four days in a row just to get used to it a little bit. And I have my buddies chirp me the entire time.

'Hopefully I'm getting a little better, serviceable. I would just suggest I'm not a professional golfer. I swing really hard and get out of the way of the driver's box.'

Kittle signed a four-year, $76.4million contract with the 49ers but he will head to Tahoe with a couple of second-hand clubs that he dug out of the bushes several years ago.

'I got my first set of clubs off like a scholarship check, $800,' he explained. 'I went to the local Play It Again Sports and bought a set of clubs. That's what I played with until literally four years ago.

'One of my buddies, he's like a shorter D lineman, a lot of power. He is an average 320‑plus drive almost every single time. He's like an 82 to 85 golfer.

'He hit like three drives in a row into the forest. He threw his club into the forest. I was, like, "Can I go get that?" It was a Nike Sasquatch driver. I still have it in my bag today, I still use it every single day that I golf.

'About two holes later he threw his 54 (degree wedge) into the woods as well. I went and got that one as well. I added his 54 and his driver in my bag. I still use them both.'

Kittle and Kelce recently came together in Nashville to lead the latest instalment of Tight End University. Nearly 80 players took part in the event, which saw Taylor Swift perform a surprise concert.

On Tuesday Kittle spoke alongside Buccaneers star Mayfield, who was asked whether a 'Quarterback University' is on the horizon.

'No, I don't envision the quarterbacks getting together,' he said.

'Quarterbacks are weird, man. They don't want to give their secrets away, whatever they've got in there.'

He added: 'Tight ends are a special breed. They're all ball, like to work hard, play hard. That's what makes it so much fun to watch.'
