NFL flop arrested for assault and burglary after alleged Orlando home invasion

Former NFL practice squad player Damoun Patterson has been arrested on serious felony charges in Florida, including armed burglary and aggravated assault, following an alleged home invasion in Orlando.

The 31-year-old was taken into custody by the Daytona Beach Police Department and charged with armed burglary of a dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief.

Jail booking records, obtained by CBS 12, confirmed that Patterson remained in custody in Volusia County as of Monday afternoon following his arrest. 

According to a charging affidavit, law enforcement had issued a 'be-on-the-lookout' alert for Patterson and a stolen vehicle connected to an alleged Orlando home invasion before officers tracked down and pulled over a white Kia.

Bodycam footage released of the traffic stop showed an officer drawing his weapon and ordering Patterson out of the car. 'You be cool with me, we'll be cool with you.'

During the arrest, an officer pointed out a knife inside the vehicle before Patterson began talking to police about his past football career.

He claimed that the Pittsburgh Steelers had once clocked him running 23 mph and mentioning that he had broken 'both toes.'

'You played on the Steelers?' an officer asked, to which Patterson replied that the team had hosted him for a workout, adding that he wanted them to know they should have drafted him.

Officers then informed Patterson that the Kia he was driving was stolen and that he was going to jail, warning him that he would likely face further inquiries from police.

Patterson, an Orlando native who played collegiately at Utah State, Highland Community College and Youngstown State.

He later spent time on offseason rosters and practice squads with the Patriots, Steelers, Falcons and Buccaneers, though he never appeared in a regular-season NFL game.
