Oliver Sorensen has become Celtic's fifth summer signing – with up to five more potentially following before the European deadline.
The Danish midfielder has agreed an initial one-year loan deal from Italian side Parma with the Parkhead club holding an option to buy.
The 24-year-old is set to be joined by Dutch midfielder Joel van den Berg from PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka and Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone.
Celtic are still in negotiations with Torino over Gvidas Gineitis, with the Scottish Champions also understood to have opened talks over Feyenoord’s Swiss right-back Jordan Lotomba.
Manager Martin O'Neill is also seeking cover at left-back for Kieran Tierney with Chelsea's Landon Emenalo the likeliest option.
Sorensen began his career with Midtjylland and moved to Serie A a year ago.
Celtic have signed Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen on a one-year deal
Celtic boss Martin O'Neill is hoping to add five more players before Thursday's deadline
He played 34 times in his debut season in Italy but has now been persuaded by O'Neill to be a mainstay of his midfield for at least a year.
'I feel lucky to be a part of this club now,' he said.
'I hope the style of play will suit me. They want to attack, they want to go forward. I hope I can contribute to that. I'm ready to give 100 per cent. This is the next stage on my football journey.
'I'm 24 now and the next three or four years should be my peak. I hope I can give them to Celtic.'
Like Sorensen, Van den Berg is seen nominally as a box-to-box midfielder in the mould of Arne Engels.
The 19-year-old is poised to move permanently to Glasgow in a £3.5million deal after breaking into PSV's first-team last season.
Mheuka, another loan target, has also only made a handful of first-team appearances for Chelsea but is highly rated at Stamford Bridge.
The 18-year-old will be asked to provide back-up to Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran over the course of the campaign.
Keeper Johnstone, a four-time England cap who started out at Manchester United, is expected to provide competition to Viljami Sinisalo after he agrees a season-long switch from Molineux.
And although Van den Berg and Sorensen give O'Neill options in the No8 slot, the veteran is still hopeful of sealing a deal for Gineitis, the Lithuanian who tends to play deeper.
'I don't think anything's confirmed just yet with the guys,' said assistant manager Shaun Maloney, 'But I think the profiles of what we need in those positions are really important that we do replace what we've lost.'
In terms of outgoings Reo Hatate, is expected to leave before the deadline with many English championship clubs pursuing Irish striker Johnny Kenny.
Maloney confirmed that Tierney and Hogh are doubts to face Aberdeen tonight but should be in contention to face St Mirren on Saturday evening.
While Callum Osmand will be out for longer, the injury the 20-year-old sustained in the win over Falkirk is not as bad as was initially feared.
'He will be a few weeks,' Maloney confirmed. 'That was just an ankle injury, sort of non-contact.'
Celtic assistant Shaun Maloney is excited by the potential of late transfer activity at the club
Meanwhile, Maloney is looking for improvements from the side off the ball as they seek to see off Aberdeen tonight.
While Celtic bounced back from their 5-1 defeat to LASK with a 2-1 victory against Falkirk, there were again enough concerning moments of defensive slackness.
'They (Aberdeen) have got really good attacking players,' said Maloney. 'I know the majority of their squad, whether they have been in the Premiership before or not. They are a really strong side attacking-wise.
'Watching them, they are definitely different to Stephen's St Mirren side.. We will prepare for them being a back four and a back five. They have predominantly been a four this season.
'They have a big threat in the final third. I know Kevin Nisbet as striker is in brilliant form. I think it will be a tough game.'
'We have looked really good attacking. As a team and as a group, I think we can definitely tighten up without the ball. We have to be more aggressive.'
