Arsenal have confirmed their fifth signing of the summer, with Spain youth international Cristhian Mosquera arriving from Valencia.

As Mail Sport reported on Sunday, talks advanced over the weekend and the 21-year old had agreed personal terms with Arsenal.

He was expected to undergo a medical this week though the clubs had been ironing out the final details on a £13million fee with added bonus payments.

Arsenal have been looking to add a defender to compete with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Mosquera can play at both centre back and right back and will fill the gap in the squad left by the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The Spain Under-21 international has made 90 appearances for Valencia and was a regular last season, playing the full match in 37 of the club's 38 La Liga games.

He said: 'When the coach and sporting director show that belief in you, it really helped convince me to come here'

Arsenal confirmed the news in a 52-second social media video, which saw Mosquera say: 'It means a lot to me. I'm joining a historic, massive club. When the coach and sporting director show that belief in you, it really helped convince me to come here.

'When you arrive here with your family, you really feel the greatness of this place. I'm thrilled to be here.'

The Gunners had already signed Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

After the arrival of Mosquera, the club's summer spending has passed £130million, are they aren't done yet. Their main target is Viktor Gyokeres, with his arrival set to be confirmed soon after the Premier League club and Sporting Lisbon finally agreed a deal.

Gyokeres is expected to sign a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium and conclude the saga in the coming days after a breakthrough in negotiations on Tuesday surrounding the precise nature of the bonus-related add-ons, beyond the guaranteed fee of £55m.

The 27-year-old Sweden international has had his heart set on a move to north London despite strong interest from elsewhere, including his former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Reports from Portugal in recent days claimed that United, now managed by Gyokeres' former Sporting boss Amorim, had reignited their interest in the player.

However, the manager's treatment of ex-Red Devil and Gyokeres' compatriot Victor Lindelof upset the striker, according to Portuguese outlet Record. The two players share the same agent in Turkish businessman Hasan Cetinkaya, with Lindelof said to have maintained a desire to remain at Old Trafford had he been offered a new deal by the club.
