Yulia Putintseva cut an unrepentant figure as she doubled down on her criticism of fellow tennis star Maria Sakkari's behaviour at the net one week on from their well-publicised spat at Bad Homburg.

The Kazakh player clashed with the Greek No1 after losing to Sakkari in straight sets at the Wimbledon warm-up tournament in Germany, with Putintseva telling her opponent to 'go f*** (herself)' amid a heated exchange of words

Sakkari continued to argue with Putintseva and eventually told her that 'nobody likes (her)' on the women's tour.

Putintseva had previously found herself at the centre of a media firestorm over an incident at last year's US Open where she was alleged to have 'humiliated' a ball girl during her third-round defeat to Jasmine Paolini.

One week after the dust settled on her spat with Sakkari, Putintseva remained forthright that she had not been courting controversy.

'I am not trying to look for the drama. Drama is always looking for me,' Putintseva said. 'Sakkari was wrong at this point.

The two stars clashed at the net with Sakkari telling the Kazakh player: 'nobody likes you'

'I mean, if she wants to feel the opposite, is her choice. And that's pretty much it.

'It's not like I'm coming and I'm thinking, "Oh my God. Like what is happening? Or what happened, like in Bag Homburg, or New York, or wherever.'

'I don't even think about it. Ever.'

Putintseva has had a torrid time this week, openly calling her time in SW19 'a fiasco' after losing her doubles first-round match alongside US star Peyton Stearns in straight sets, and her opening singles tie against Amanda Anisimova without winning a single game.

During the match, Putintseva became distressed after by the presence of a person in the crowd who is believed to have been targeting the player over Russian aggression in Ukraine

Putintseva asked for the man to be removed, saying that he could have a 'knife' and later continued the tie.

The player was tearful during the match, and after it ended as she returned to the player dressing rooms, but she stressed on Wednesday that this had more to do with her 'terrible' play rather than feeling threatened.

'The media is trying to bring too many things around me, or around the players when nothing much happened. That's it.

'It was just an idiot, like saying something, and I was not afraid, but I was feeling uncomfortable, because there is too many idiots right now in the world.'

Putintseva confirmed that she had asked for the person to be removed, and but although she did not know whether they had, 'if they didn't, at least no one got hurt.'
