Rangers have completed the signing of winger Djeidi Gassama from Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of around £2.2million.

The 21-year-old, who came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain as a youngster, has signed a four-year deal with the Ibrox club.

Gassama has been capped at Under-20 level by France and contributed 12 goals and four assists over the past two seasons with Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship.

‘He is certainly an exciting player who will get supporters on the edge of their seats, and I believe he will add an extra dimension to our attack with his qualities,’ said Rangers boss Russell Martin.

‘He is hungry to improve as a player and, most importantly, is desperate to pull on the Rangers jersey and help deliver success to the club.’

Gassama joins fellow new recruits Joe Rothwell, Manny Fernandez, Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons, Lyall Cameron and Thelo Aasgaard in Martin’s new-look squad.

‘I am very happy to be here,’ Gassama said. ‘I am very excited to start with my new club, it has a lot of history.

‘This is a big club, and I need that for my next level and I think it can help me progress.’

Mail Sport understands Rangers are still in the market for another wide player, and potentially a new striker as well.

Their season will begin next week when they face Panathinaikos in the first leg of a Champions League qualifier at Ibrox.
