Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he called Liverpool's players together on Monday for a serious conversation about their recent dip in form.
Van Dijk was a picture of despair after Liverpool's 2-1 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday, their fourth consecutive loss.
He was far from alone after an alarming slump by Arne Slot's men that had started to nag at the team's confidence.
Van Dijk felt things needed to be aired before Wednesday night's trip to Frankfurt in the Champions League.
Though the Dutchman was at pains to insist it was far from a crisis meeting. He said: 'On Monday everyone was sad because we lost to United at home. We haven't lost many games at home during my time at Liverpool.
'It was tough under the circumstances so on Monday we came together but it wasn't a crisis meeting. We all know how things can change.

'We're only in October. Nobody wants to lose four games in a row but it was the situation we faced.
'We had to stay calm and block out all the noise from the outside because that's something you can't control.
'The only way to get out of a situation like that is to stay together, keep your mind on the task ahead, try to improve, keep the confidence, embrace the moment. We live in a world now where there is always noise - always something to be said, always someone who knows better.'
The discussions appeared to provide the intended effect as the Reds ended their losing run in style by hammering Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1.
Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai sent them back to winning ways but Arne Slot was left with a bittersweet feeling after Aleander Isak joined Jeremie Frimpong on the treatment table.
The £125million striker went off at half-time reporting pain in his groin and Slot said: 'Alex was well prepared to play but the margins are small, I am hoping this is not this bad. If he would be out for a few weeks that would throw him back. Jeremie has a hamstring issue. He had to go off.
'(Isak) had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That's a pity. It's such a difficult balance to find with a player who has missed three months, you bring him slowly. People argue to play him longer.
'Now we play him for the second time in three days and he has to go off, let's hope for the best.'
Slot's men will hope to get back to winning ways domestically when they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday night.
Their recent slump has seen a five-point lead at the top of the standings turn into a four-point deficit to leaders Arsenal.
