Donald Trump made sure to remind 'stupid' NFL owners of his previous praise for Shedeur Sanders after the quarterback impressed on his full debut for the Browns

After a rollercoaster couple of weeks, the rookie made his first start for the franchise against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and helped lead them to a 24-10 win.

Fans poured onto social media to heap praise on the 23-year-old, after overcoming a difficult start to life in Cleveland, and among them was none other than the president.

Trump had previously voiced his frustrations with 'stupid' NFL owners who overlooked Sanders during the 2025 NFL Draft and returned to social media on Monday to dish out a brutal 'told you so' to those who passed up on the quarterback.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote: 'Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!'.

Back in April, Trump was left seething over the decision from franchises to overlook the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders

Donald Trump later took to social media to heap praise on the 23-year-old's performance

At the time, Trump wrote: 'What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!

'Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!'

During the win over the Raiders, Sanders went 11-of-20 for 209 yards including one touchdown and one interception.

In helping secure a victory on the day, Sanders became the first quarterback in Browns history to win on his first career start for the franchise.

Speaking to media after the game, Sanders said: 'A lot of people want to see me fail. It ain't gonna happen. It ain't gonna happen.'

Sanders endured a chaotic week leading up to the game, after he made his NFL bow last Sunday, before it was revealed that his home was burgled by thieves on the day.

Trump, meanwhile, has also made headlines in the NFL in recent weeks, after drawing the ire of coaches for his complaints over an NFL rule.

Trump has been a ferocious critic of the league's dynamic kickoff rules ever since they were introduced before the start of last season.

He has voiced his opposition to the tweaks multiple times on social media and did so again during an appearance on the Pat McAfee show earlier this month.

Trump said: 'I think it's so terrible. I think it's so demeaning, and I think it hurts the game. It hurts the pageantry. I've told that to (NFL Commissioner) Roger Goodell, and I don't think it's any safer. I mean, you still have guys crashing into each other.'

However, Trump's criticisms drew criticisms from Super Bowl winning coach Dave Toub, who ripped into the president during a press conference.

Toub, a special teams coach for the Chiefs, said: 'He doesn't even know what he's looking at. He has no idea what's going on with the kickoff rule. So take that for what it's worth. And I hope he hears it.'
