Former UFC star turned coach Suman Mokhtarian was farewelled by loved ones on Friday after he was killed in a brazen daylight shooting earlier this month.

The private funeral was held at the Lakemba Mosque.

Mokhtarian, 33, was shot dead while walking in Riverstone in Sydney's northwest at about 6pm on October 8.

Police have labelled the incident a 'targeted' attack.

A burnt-out red Audi located a short time later on Riverstone Rd has been linked to the shooting, as has a white van captured on CCTV being torched by two men.

Sydney man Ahmad Hraichie — known online as The Muslim Undertaker — prepared Mokhtarian's body for the funeral.

'Today we washed and shrouded our 33-year-old brother, UFC fighter Suman Mokhtarian. A young man — fit, strong, healthy to the eye — tragically killed,' Hraichie said.

'The same brother who would carry others on his shoulders in wrestling, grappling and training was today carried on the shoulders of his friends and family.

'The very men he trained with, rolled with and sweated with were the ones who lifted him for his final journey.'

Hraichie ended the social media post with a prayer.

'May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him and make his grave a garden from the gardens of Paradise. A reminder to us all – strength, fame and health do not delay death. What matters is how you return to your Lord.'

Mokhtarian fought twice in the UFC after earning a contract via popular reality show The Ultimate Fighter.

After injuries ended his career in the Octagon, Mokhtarian began coaching at a fighting gym in Wentworthville, which he co-owned with his brother.

Colleagues and students have mourned the fighter as an inspiring figure with a deep passion for the sport.

Fighter Jesse Swain, who trained under Mokhtarian, shared on Instagram that 'I owe all I've done in MMA to him'.

'Anyone that knew him personally knows how passionate and invigorating he was, and he expected nothing but the best from you,' he posted.

In recent years, Mokhtarian survived several attempts on his life.

News Corp reported one assassination attempt in February 2024 outside his gym, and in April, a mixed martial arts event was cancelled when NSW Police raised concerns about Mokhtarian's safety.

Anyone with information surrounding Mokhtarian's death should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
