Matildas star and her partner announce the birth of their first baby after claiming their gender reveal was a 'flop'

Matildas star Emily Van Egmond and her partner, Kat, have announced the arrival of their first child.

The couple took to Instagram on Monday to share the exciting news with their followers, revealing that they had a baby girl.

‘Welcome to the world Maddix Louise Van Egmond,’ the couple wrote on Instagram.

The pair published several heartwarming images of them in hospital with their newborn, with Emily seen tucking Maddix into her crib.

The comments on the post were flooded with messages of congratulations from Van Egmond’s Matildas team-mates.

Sam Kerr shared three love-heart emojis, while Caitlin Foord wrote: ‘The princess is here.’

Mackenzie Arnold wrote: ‘We love Maddix so much,’ while Steph Catley added: ‘Gorgeous girl.’

Kerr’s fiancee Kristie Mewis, added: ‘Wahhhh!! Congrats you guys.’ England shot-stopper Carly Telford also sent a note of congratulations: ‘This is just the best thing ever. She’s gunna be so loved!! Congrats guys xxx.’

Alanna Kennedy added: ‘Little princess,’ while the official Matildas Instagram account wrote: ‘Congratulations on the arrival of your beautiful baby girl!’

Emily and Kat publicly announced that they were expecting a baby back in April, just months after the couple tied the knot in a stunning ceremony at the Krinklewood Estate in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley.

They are not the first Matildas superstars to become new parents in recent months, with Tameka Yallop and her wife Kirsty, a former New Zealand international, celebrated the arrival of their second daughter earlier this month.

Kat and Emily announced the exciting news that they were expecting in April. In August, they again took to social media to reveal the gender of their baby, but things didn’t go quite to plan.

They shared several images of themselves in a black-and-white filter, appearing to cut a cake.

Kat wrote: ‘Little did they know there was an error with their gender test and would go 16 weeks picking a name, buying clothes and sharing the news before finding out the truth.’

‘It makes for a good story now!’ she added in the comments.

‘We love these moments, but some details we want to keep to ourselves. Strongly advise against any early gender blood tests!’

Van Egmond is currently plying her trade in England, having moved from Birmingham City to Leicester earlier this year.

The footballer has enjoyed a glittering career at the top level, winning 163 caps for the Matildas, scoring 32 goals for the side.

In domestic football, Van Egmond has travelled around the world, playing in Europe for Wolsfburg and Amercia for Chicago Red Stars, San Diego Wave and Orlando Pride, and in England with West Ham.
