Man United monitor exciting youngster at Championship side after being promoted to first-team squad

Manchester United are monitoring Coventry City's exciting starlet George Shepherd.

The 16-year-old was named on the first team bench by manager Frank Lampard for Saturday's Championship game against Blackburn Rovers.

It comes after the midfielder impressed making his first appearance for the club's U21s earlier this season.

And Lampard has been quick to reward the teenager's progression by including him in their promotion-chasing squad.

However, Shepherd is still on scholarship forms and has yet to be offered professional terms by the Sky Blues.

Other clubs have become aware of his situation and have started to pay closer attention to his performances.

The Red Devils have been looking to recruit more youngsters for their academy ranks from home and abroad - but other clubs have started to pay closer to the 16-year-old youngster

United are one of the high-profile clubs tracking Shepherd, who is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, and more could follow suit.

They have recently agreed to sign Colombian 17-year old midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza. 

He follows deals for other teenagers Diego Leon and Sekou Kone while they have recently handed a trial to 17-year old Senegal midfielder Mouhamed Dabo.
