Fans have ruthlessly mocked Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after the veteran was embarrassingly exposed by Gabriel Martinelli during Arsenal's 3-1 win over the German giants on Wednesday.

The Gunners earned a statement win to climb above Bayern Munich in the Champions League table, now the only team in the tournament yet to lose a game.

Noni Madueke struck midway through the second half to regain Arsenal's lead after teenager Lennart Karl cancelled out Jurrien Timber's opener, setting up what promised to be a tense end at the Emirates.

But substitute Martinelli put the game beyond doubt with Arsenal's third on the night, brutally punishing Neuer for charging out of his goal by rounding him and easily converting into an open net.

Bursting free from inside his own half, the Brazilian noticed Neuer, 39, all at sea and cleverly touched the ball past him, roaring past the goalkeeper as he scrambled to the floor.

Neuer, who is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, is known for positioning himself far off his line to sweep up in support of his defenders - but this time got it badly wrong.

It left Martinelli with the simplest of finishes and rubber stamped Arsenal's superb 3-1 win

Fans were quick to ridicule the seasoned shot-stopper on social media.

'His favorite position is the midfield,' one fan joked on X.

Another added: '42 years old and he’s still pulling this gimmick. Pack it up old man. This ain’t the Bundesliga.'

'He is sooo frustrating sometimes,' a third lamented.

'That Martinelli first touch made a complete fool of Neuer,' another posted.

Neuer, who has made over 550 appearances for the German side since his arrival from Schalke in 2011, is one of the most experienced players in the Champions League and is often celebrated by Bayern Munich fans for his reliability and consistency.

Following the 3-1 defeat, the Bundesliga giants slipped behind Paris Saint-Germain into third place, dropping on goal difference after the Champions League holders' chaotic 5-3 win over Tottenham.

Arsenal now sit at the summit of both the Premier League and Champions League tables, having only lost once all season.

After three successive seasons finishing second in the English top flight, the Gunners are in pole position to win a first Premier League title since 2004 and have now established themselves as one of the clear Champions League favourites.

Arsenal face Chelsea in a huge Premier League clash on Sunday, while Bayern host FC St. Pauli in their next Bundesliga game on Saturday.
