England scored their second Autumn Nations victory as they beat Fiji 38-18 at Twickenham
England
Marcus Smith – 7 He might not be a specialist full-back, but he dovetailed nicely at times with Fin Smith and fronted up physically. Did brilliantly to force Simione Kuruvoli to spill ball and then set-up Henry Arundell’s clincher.
Tommy Freeman – 5.5 More involved this week than last back on the wing instead of centre but would probably still have left the field frustrated.
Ollie Lawrence – 7 Back in an England shirt for first time since Achilles injury. Forced into lots and lots of tackling to keep maverick Fijians at bay. Great carry in build-up to Ellis Genge try.
Fraser Dingwall – 5.5 Brushed aside by Josua Tuisova and outplayed by his opposite number who was outstanding, particularly before half time. Never stopped tackling though.
Immanuel Feyi-Waboso – 6.5 Taken out in the air in horrible fashion but brushed it off well to finish from Fin Smith’s cross-kick. He’s electric. Give him the ball!
Marcus Smith dovetailed brilliantly with Fin Smith and rose to the physical challenge
Fin Smith – 7.5 Showed he is a strong defender by immediately muscling up to the giant Tuisova and combined that with some lovely passing and kicking at the line. Impressive.
Alex Mitchell – 6 Not helped by Fiji disrupting the breakdown and England being turned over and struggling for clean possession but remains key figure.
Ellis Genge (capt) – 6.5 As captain, he sought clarity as scrum issues hit both sides. Crucial second-half try was one of his final acts.
Luke Cowan-Dickie – 7 Always good for a try these days. Hard as nails, reliable line-out throwing and has nice hands too. Jamie George a strong replacement and he scored too.
Joe Heyes – 5.5 Prominent in the loose for a No 3 and looked comfortable when on the ball in open spaces. Scrum not dominant and replaced early in second half.
Captain Ellis Genge scored a crucial second-half try and sought clarity over scrum issues
Ollie Chessum stepped up as senior lock in place of Maro Itoje and acquitted himself well
Alex Coles – 5.5 Part of England pack splintered too easily for Fiji’s first try from rolling maul and penalised for playing the opposition scrum-half.
Ollie Chessum – 7 Stepped up as senior lock with Maro Itoje on the bench. Won plenty of line-out ball and can be pleased with overall performance.
Guy Pepper – 5 Unlucky to knock on in the tackle with one big hit. Didn’t go the distance as he did against Australia and was replaced by Henry Pollock.
Ben Earl – 7.5 Now England’s first-choice No 8 but on the flank here, save for some attacking scrums. He gets through a serious amount of work. Helped Marcus Smith stop Kuruvoli from scoring.
Chandler Cunningham-South – 6 First England start at the base of the pack though he didn’t always scrum there. Explosive at times but had his hands full with fearsome opposition.
Ben Earl won man of the match and got through a serious amount of work at Twickenham
Replacements: Jamie George 7.5 (for Cowan-Dickie 54), Fin Baxter 5.5 (for Genge 54), Asher Opoku-Fordjour 5.5 (for Heyes 54), Henry Pollock 5.5 (for Pepper 54), Tom Curry 7 (for Cunningham-South 64), Ben Spencer 5 (for Mitchell 63), Henry Arundell 7.5 (for Freeman 67), Maro Itoje 7 (for Chessum 71)
