College football player left motionless by awkward hit is rushed to Boston hospital in frightening scene

A Boston College football player was removed from Friday's win over visiting Rutgers in an ambulance after laying motionless on the ground for several minutes.

Eagles linebacker Bodie Kahoun tackled Scarlet Knights running back Antwan Raymond with 7:52 left in the first half only to fall under leaping teammate Carter Davis. When the pile was cleared, Kahoun remained still on his back as trainers rushed out onto the turf at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill.

'Serious situation here in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts,' ESPN's Mike Monaco said as the network came back from commercial. 'Bodie Kahoun, the redshirt sophomore Notre Dame transfer receiving medical attention. You'll see they already have the cart out and Kahoun laying on his back.'

'As he's coming in from left to right, he's gonna get involved here in the tackle,' Jordan Rodgers, Aaron's brother, added while watching the replay. 'Looks pretty routine up to here. Just takes a hard hit.

'A lot of times, when your teammate almost tackles the ball carrier into you, you're not as ready to absorb the hit,' Rodgers added.

Players from both teams took a knee as Kahoun was carted off the field and transferred to an ambulance. 

The good news is that the linebacker has 'movement in all extremities' and is 'being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation,' according to a social media post by Boston College Athletics. ESPN later specific that Kahoun was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital along with his father, Craig.

'Very tough,' BC coach Bill O'Brien said after the game. 'He's just an awesome guy. You can see what that meant to the team. That meant a lot to the team. We'll have some further news on that later, but it looks like there's some hope there with the feeling in the extremities.' 

Kahoun had already recorded six tackles for the Eagles before the play.

After his injury, Rutgers nearly came back from a 17-0 deficit before losing 28-21 to fall to 0-2 on the year. Greg Schiano's team will now look for its first win next week in a Big 10 matchup with USC.

Boston College evens its record at 1-1 ahead of an inner-New England matchup with Maine next week.

A Roanoke, Virginia native, the 6ft 2in, 225-pound Kahoun originally agreed to go to play at Notre Dame before transferring to Boston College this season.

The team was already playing for former Boston College lacrosse star Welles Crowther, who died 25 years ago during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Crowther has since been identified as the 'Man in the Red Bandanna' - the hero who repeatedly returned to the building to rescue at least 10 people before it collapsed.

'Hey, now we're playing for two reasons: for Bodie, for Welles,' Eagles defensive back KP Price said at halftime.
