Independent senator David Pocock has shared his gruelling workout on Instagram - and the former Wallabies captain has clearly kept in shape since retiring from international rugby in 2019.

Pocock, 37, also recently attracted headlines after he was booted from a parliamentary social sports club in Canberra.

The Australian Parliament Sports Club hosts friendly games between MPs, their staff, public servants and journalists during sitting weeks in the nation's capital.

But Pocock is no longer welcome at the club after raising concerns about a gambling lobby sponsor, Responsible Wagering Australia.

Pocock said he was 'shocked to learn that the club was selling access to parliamentarians.'

'Being kicked out of the club for raising concerns around gambling lobbyists buying access to the club shows the influence vested interests have here in parliament,' he stated after his membership was sensationally revoked by Australian Parliament Sports Club chief executive Andy Turnbull.

In August, Pocock stunned many of his 386,000 plus followers with the intensity of his early morning workouts, which are often staged in a group setting on the Murrumbidgee River.

Pocock trains with a group of other fitness enthusiasts dubbed the Granimals, with focus placed on mobility exercises, strength training and high-intensity interval sessions.

The 83-Test veteran for Australia announced in 2020 he was walking away from all forms of rugby to focus on conservation efforts - he was soon elected as the Independent party's ACT whip

The rugby great turned climate activist also looks to squeeze in gym sessions and team sports when time permits.

'If I don't at least do some sort of exercise in the morning, I just never do it,' Pocock previously told the Sydney Morning Herald.

'You can spend the entire day inside [parliament]. You get there, the sun isn't up; you're leaving, the sun's down.'

Late last year, Pocock became a father - but along with his wife Emma, the couple haven't revealed the name or gender of their baby.

Pocock has also supported several social activism causes, notably refusing to legally marry his partner until the Australian government made same-sex marriage legal.

In 2021, he announced he would be running as a candidate for the Australian Senate - and a year later was elected as the Independent party's ACT whip.
