Alexander Isak will return to Liverpool training today after missing the last three weeks through injury – and the British record signing has a chance of making the squad for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City.

Isak has had a frustrating start to life on Merseyside, scoring just one goal – in the Carabao Cup – and struggling for fitness. He had a limited pre-season after forcing a move from Newcastle and has picked up a couple of niggling issues since his transfer.

The Swede went off with a groin problem at half-time against Eintracht Frankfurt and has not been seen since – but Isak will return to full training for the first time on Friday and is in contention to make the substitutes bench against City.

Liverpool will be without goalkeeper Alisson for the trip to the Etihad Stadium though he is expected to be fit for the first game back after the international break against Nottingham Forest.

Right back Jeremie Frimpong will be out for a bit longer, though. Daily Mail Sport reported last week how the Dutchman was facing a longer spell on the sidelines than first feared.
