The Arizona Cardinals have placed quarterback Kyler Murray on Injured Reserve as he recovers from a foot injury.

Murray has been sidelined in recent weeks after suffering with a mid-foot sprain, paving the way for Jacoby Brissett to start under center for the Cardinals.

The franchise made the decision earlier this week to stick with Brissett as their starting quarterback after he led the team to an impressive win over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

The Cardinals had already confirmed that Murray would be benched for this Sunday's clash against the Seattle Seahawks amid his injury. Now they have made the move to place him on IR to allow him even more time to heal.

The move means that Murray, who has been sidelined since Week 5, will miss at least four more games, despite recent hopes that the signal caller would be making a return soon.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection - who hasn't spoken with reporters since his injury on October 5 - is in the middle of a $230.5m, five-year deal that runs through 2027 with a team option for 2028.

Brissett made his third consecutive start on Monday night after the week began with expectations of Murray returning coming off the team's bye.

Instead, the Cardinals pivoted to Brissett, with Gannon saying Murray wasn't quite ready.

Brissett threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score as the Cardinals beat the Cowboys 27-17.

The Cardinals, who are 3-5, are still harboring hopes for a run to the playoffs, and it sure looks as if Brissett would give them the best chance to make it happen.

Brissett brushed aside a question on Monday night asking if he should be the full-time starter, saying he doesn't 'get into that stuff' and just wants to perform well when called upon.

'The good teams in this league find ways to continue to get better,' Brissett added.

'That is what we are doing at this point in the season, just trying to find ways to get better. You tweak things, you go back to your drawing board.'

The 32-year-old has completed 65.2 per cent of his passes for 860 yards, six touchdowns and one interception over three games. He's rapidly gaining chemistry with the team's top receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr. caught a career-high seven passes for 96 yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys.
