Aryna Sabalenka sent a pointed message to her boyfriend on Friday night after watching a couple get engaged in the stands during her match at the US Open.

A fan popped the question to his girlfriend inside Louis Armstrong Stadium during Sabalenka's third-round victory over Leylah Fernandez, and the No. 1 seed was among the people who couldn't help but enjoy the happy moment.

Fans began cheering as soon as they saw the man drop to one knee with the ring in his hand, and he waved his arms to encourage them to get louder.

Some took cell phones out to record the moment as the woman said yes through her joyous tears.

'I think it's the first time that someone proposed during my match,' Sabalenka, the defending champion in New York, said afterwards.

'It was a very sweet moment, but I was just trying not to start smiling, because it's very cute and I believe they're super happy right now.

'I was just trying to keep focusing on my game, and it was a great moment. As I said on court, I wish them a happy marriage.'

A smiling Sabalenka then concluded: 'I looked at my boyfriend. No pressure.'

Sabalenka has been with the Oakberry founder and race car driver Georgios Frangulis since early 2024.

The 27-year-old went public with the romance in May last year, sharing a photo of them together after she fell to Iga Swiatek in the Italian Open.

That came two months after her ex-boyfriend, Belarusian ice hockey star Konstantin Koltsov, died after jumping from a hotel balcony in Miami in a tragedy that left the tennis star shattered.

Sabalenka sparked rumors she was engaged to Frangulis earlier this year with a post on Instagram.

She treated her followers to a series of pictures of her and Frangulis, with one featuring a shot of her wearing a gold ring with a huge gemstone on the ring finger of her left hand.

Many of her fans jumped to the conclusion that her man had popped the question, but Sabalenka replied to one by writing: 'No guys, it's just a beautiful ring, we are not engaged.'
