Travis Kelce's father, Ed Kelce, has broken his silence after his son and 14-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift confirmed their engagement on Tuesday in a social-media post.
The elder Kelce has revealed that Travis wanted to wait longer to propose to Swift, to make it a more 'grand' gesture.
It was apparently how 'antsy' Swift was to get a ring on her left hand that led the Kansas City Chiefs star to speed up the process.
'Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,' Ed Kelce told Cleveland TV station WEWS. 'He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.'
'And I told him repeatedly, you know, "You could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event... when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you."'
Travis' future father-in-law, Scott Swift agreed with Ed's idea about his beloved daughter finally getting engaged.

The special moment took place in a garden in the Kansas City suburb of Lee's Summit, Missouri, hometown of NFL quarterback Drew Lock.
'He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, "Let's go out and have a glass of wine,"' Ed Kelce continued. 'They got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful.'
'They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great.'
Ed was not alone when his phone buzzed with Taylor and Travis on the other line. He was at a Philadelphia Eagles practice, visiting the team where his other son, Jason Kelce, became an NFL legend.
'I was at... an Eagles practice, a public practice that they had a lot of people that, well, the Eagles had 60,000 people at a public practice two weeks ago on a Sunday night,' Kelce added. 'So at that practice ... I got a FaceTime call from them, and as soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.'
Ed said he was aware of Travis' plan to propose for a few months, believing his 35-year-old son could have popped the question during the last NFL season.
If Ed was in the know, it is likely Jason was as well when Swift appeared as a guest on 'New Heights' earlier this month. It is even possible Travis' mother, Donna Kelce, knew her son may get engaged while she was filming 'The Traitors' in Scotland a few months back.
Ed believes his sons romance is the real deal, as he has never seen him happier.
Ed Kelce said Swift was 'antsy' about getting proposed to, with his son looking to delay it
'We actually went to a thing in KC Sunday night, which was an ESPN airing of "The Kingdom" and went to that, and his mother and I went with him back to his house for dinner, where Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other. It's truly kinda neat,' Ed said.
Ed added no plans for the wedding have been set in the near-two weeks since Travis and Taylor have been engaged.
'They're just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight that they really haven't sought but kind of followed with their success in their respective fields,' Kelce concluded.
Kelce and Swift's engagement was announced nine days before the Chiefs first game of the 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil.
Ed Kelce himself has stayed mostly silent since his girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, passed away earlier this month.
Kelce shared an obituary on his Facebook page on Saturday afternoon revealing that she had passed away on August 1 at the age of 74, surrounded by loved ones.
The obituary describes Kelce as Maguire's 'beloved friend' but she has repeatedly been referred to as Ed's girlfriend amid the family's whirlwind rise to fame over the last three years.
Once, according to an interview Ed gave to the LA Times, she even jokingly told Taylor Swift 'hey, that's my boyfriend' when the singer took a selfie with Travis and Jason's father at an NFL game.
