After only one game in 2025, the San Francisco 49ers have seen enough from kicker Jake Moody to brutally axe him from the team, sending him to the waiver wire, and if he clears, free agency.
The cut comes after Moody only made one of three field goals during the 49ers season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Moody first hit the left upright with a 27-yard attempt late in the second quarter. Then, a 36-yard attempt was blocked in the third quarter.
The 25-year-old did not end the game scoreless, converting on a 32-yard attempt in the fourth quarter. Moody did make both of his extra points in San Francisco's 17-13 win over Seattle.
The 49ers do not have a kicker on its active roster, with the team likely to bring in a few free agents to try out for the spot ahead of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Moody was 46-for-62 overall in his 49ers career since he was a third-round pick for the team out of Michigan in 2023.

Moody entered the 2025 season on shaky ground after missing 10 field goals last year, the worst mark for any kicker who had 30 or more attempts.
No other kicker in the NFL missed two field goals during the opening weekend of the season.
After Sunday's win, the writing may have been on the wall for Moody, as head coach Kyle Shanahan did not give him his vote of confidence.
'Right now, I have no question. I’m trying to finish today, get on a plane and evaluate stuff, and go back at it. Ask me every day and I’ll answer how I am right at that moment,' Shanahan said.
One possible candidate to replace Moody is veteran kicker Greg Joseph, who battled Moody for the kicking role with the 49ers before the season started.
