San Francisco 49ers player Demarcus Robinson has been suspended for three games after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

It was a punishment the 49ers expected when they signed Robinson, formerly of the Los Angeles Rams, on a two-year, $9.5 million deal this summer.

The Super Bowl winner was stopped by police on November 25 after driving his car over 100mph. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Last month Robinson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge in California, meaning he wouldn’t be serving any jail time.

Robinson was sentenced to three years’ probation in Los Angeles on top pf paying a $390 fine. He is also required to complete a three-month alcohol program but his attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna, hopes the program will end early with his record being expunged.

Robinson's debut is going to have to wait until September 28, when the 49ers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
