The New York Giants entered training camp with four quarterbacks, including Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson, former Heisman winner Jameis Winston and another first-round pick in rookie Jaxson Dart.

On Tuesday, former Giants starter and local New Jersey product Tommy DeVito learned he'd be the odd man out in East Rutherford, as first reported by NFL Network.

Daily Mail has reached out to DeVito's representation and a Giants spokesperson for confirmation.

While somewhat expected, the news comes as a major blow to local fans, who enjoyed cheering on the Don Bosco Prep product with the Giants. The former Syracuse and Illinois star would start eight games over two seasons for New York as the team cycled from one signal caller to another.

But while the team signed Wilson to start, Winston to serve as an experienced backup and drafted Dart to be its future, the 27-year-old DeVito still played well in the preseason while making a strong impression on his teammates.

On Thursday, after DeVito completed 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns in the preseason finale against New England, Dart told reporters he'd predicted a breakout performance from the New Jersey native.

Wilson is expected to start in New York, but he may have not have much room for error

'I knew he was going to go out there and ball,' Dart told reporters. 'Just the things I've seen and how much I've grown from learning from him, not only is he a great teammate, but he is one of my best friends on the team, too. Was really happy to see him play the level he did and really wasn't any surprise for any of us.

To his credit, DeVito never bemoaned the veteran acquisitions, instead choosing to look at his time with Wilson and Winston as a learning experience.

'It's been awesome,' DeVito told Daily Mail in training camp. 'I mean, two guys, who've had a ton of experience and a ton of reps elsewhere. They've all been on a bunch of different teams now. Russ is someone who I've seen since I was really young, I've seen him in Super Bowls…So to be able to see their routines is very cool.'

DeVito could still return to the Giants on the practice squad if he doesn't get another offer.

Truthfully, all the Giants quarterbacks looked good in the preseason, but none had a better rating than DeVito’s 126.2.

Still, Dart exceeded expectations by completing 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns, while showing off some decent ability with his legs. So while Wilson enters the season as the starter, there is a groundswell of support among Giants fans to see the Ole Miss product under center.
