Laura Rutledge admitted to taking a wild step to defend her former Major League Baseball star husband, Josh Rutledge, from online trolls during his heyday, making fake social media accounts.

The glamorous ESPN personality admitted to creating Twitter accounts with an ambiguous avatar and name to support Josh when he was with the Los Angeles Angels organization.

The roughest part of Josh's professional career was with the Angels, as he never made an appearance for the big-league team despite his previous MLB experience.

While Josh did his tour of duty with the Triple-A Salt Lake City Bees, the baseball WAG went to virtual bat for her man.

'This is a true story. This handle might still exist. When (Josh) was with the Angels I made a fake Twitter. I'm admitting this, I know this was wrong, I haven't done it since,' Laura said to Andrew Marchand.

'The name was like, Billy Halo 76 or something. Billy Halo only tweeted positive things about Josh Rutledge and then the occasional Mike Trout tweet because I was like "Shoot somebody's gonna figure this out!"'

ESPN personality Laura Rutledge has admitted to fending off online trolls for her husband

Josh Rutledge played for the Rockies and Red Sox, and in the Angels organization, for six years

'So if anyone said anything negative about Josh, Billy Halo would find them and go "You're wrong, etc." and back it up with stats.'

Whether Josh was aware, until now, of his wife's antics is unclear, as Laura responded to the interview on X.

'I’m waiting for Josh to see this and be very embarrassed by me,' Rutledge posted.

It did not take long after Rutledge's admission for some on social media to find some of the tweets.

'#FreeJoshRutledge worked! Rutledge to Red Sox, though I think he could have been real valuable to Angels if they had ever called him up,' said user @halobilly27, which is Trout's jersey number, with the pseudonym Billy Thomas.

The above messages has now been revealed to be Laura Rutledge posting on July 27, 2015.

The account has not been active since September 2015, with Rutledge staying true to no longer virtually defending her husband from online trolls.

Josh Rutledge did make more than 1,100 MLB plate appearances from 2012 through 2017 for the Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox.
