Emma Raducanu has had her say on the hot topic of the US Open so far: her mixed doubles partner Carlos Alcaraz’s new haircut.

The Spaniard unveiled a buzz cut this week, blaming his brother Alvaro for a disaster haircut which required a full shave to salvage.

Frances Tiafoe, Jack Draper, Fran Jones have given their opinion – how about Raducanu?

‘I think he owns it,’ said the 22-year-old after thrashing Janice Tjen to reach the third round in New York. ‘I think he pulls it off and if you own a haircut like that, then it can work.

‘But whatever he does, it's not going to affect what he does on the court. I'm just happy to see him having fun.’

American Tiafoe was not quite so charitable, saying: ‘It's horrible. It's terrible. I looked at him and I was like, I guess you're aerodynamic.

‘Juan Carlos (Ferrero, Alcaraz’s coach) said, Yeah, he's faster than he already was. I was like, Well, that's a problem.

‘From a guy who gets haircuts week in, week out, and prides myself on good haircuts, it's horrendous.’

Draper, whose own various haircuts have attracted attention this year, said: ‘I love it. I love it when people change up the hairstyles. The media probably will slay it but I think it looks cool. I think he's done well to mix it up there.’

British No5 Fran Jones, who is a fluent Spanish speaker and gets on well with Alcaraz, was more in the Tiafoe camp – and told Alcaraz to his face.

‘It’s shocking, disgraceful – and I told him that as well,’ said Jones. ‘He just laughed. He’s a chilled guy.’

Over the summer, Raducanu was seen supporting Alcaraz during his matches at Wimbledon, sparking talk of a potential romance between the pair.

They were also spotted laughing and joking together and arriving at the venue just minutes apart to further fuel the speculation.

When quizzed on the rumors back in June, Raducanu smiled while saying: 'We're just good friends.'

The interview moderator then cut off further questions, prompting her to laugh and remark: 'Way to wrap up!'
