UCLA quarterback Pierce Clarkson has been suspended by the Bruins following his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon in Los Angeles.

The LA Times' UCLA beat writer Ben Bolch posted on Monday that Clarkson is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon - not a firearm - with great bodily injury.

Clarkson, 21, was arrested on Friday by the LAPD's Southwest Division and his first court date is scheduled for October 3. He was released on $30,000 bail.

In the aftermath of his arrest, Clarkson has now been suspended by the team indefinitely 'pending the outcome of the legal process.'

'This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy,' the school said.

Clarkson moved to UCLA in May after a brief transfer to Ole Miss in January. He has yet to play a down for the Bruins this season.

Before that, he spent two seasons at Louisville and attempted six passes for 18 yards and rushed five times for nine yards.

Nico Iamaleava has started both of UCLA's games so far this season, defeats by Utah and UNLV.

Clarkson is the son of prominent quarterback trainer Steve Clarkson, who has coached the likes of Ben Roethlisberger and Tim Tebow.

He was a four-star recruit coming out of St. John Bosco high school in Bellflower, California.
