The wife of Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper opened up about how she feels when her husband gets criticized for his performances.
In an episode of the 'Let's Be Honest' podcast, Kayla Harper gave a rare look at her marriage for host Kristin Cavallari in the couple's first dual-interview.
When asked what the hardest thing was to be married to a professional athlete, Kayla said the personal attacks against her husband hurt the most.
'It's not even when people say he sucks, because obviously he doesn't suck. I think it's more when they attack his character and I'm like, "That is not him at all,"' Kayla said as she wiped away tears.
'Why do I get emotional? But yeah, I think that's hard — when you hear so many people's opinions about your husband and that's not the person that he is, or the dad that he is, or the friend that he is, or even the baseball player that he is.
'Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm crying. This is so embarrassing. This is why I don't do this stuff.'

As for Bryce, he says that he 'couldn't care less' when it comes to the public rebukes
Kayla says she's seen her husband face plenty of scrutiny throughout his baseball career, adding that 'it's hard to keep [my] mouth shut' when it comes to the attacks against him.
'I feel like he's always had a really tough go at media ever since he was younger. I mean, so many opinions,' she said. '… I lived a relatively normal life so seeing somebody that person you care the most about getting torn apart by everybody who doesn't know him.
'That's hard to sit back and not say anything. It's hard to not get on… [I've responded] when I was dumb and young. I'm sassy. I've got a lot to say. I'm sarcastic with people. I would pop off in stuff.
'It doesn't go anywhere, it's dumb. It's hard to keep your mouth shut and just pretend like it's not happening
'At the end of the day, I know who he is. He's got his family. It is what it is.'
As for Bryce, the nine-time All-Star says he 'couldn't care less' about the criticism he gets from strangers, saying: 'not any of those people that are really saying stuff are ever going to be at my Thanksgiving dinner.'
'I'm never going to invite them through my door. My grandma used to say, "Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one."'
