Bryan Mbeumo has opened up to Rio Ferdinand on all things Man United after signing for Ruben Amorim's side on a £65m deal earlier this month.

The former Brentford forward scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League last season, making him hot property in the transfer market.

And United swooped for their man, securing him despite interest from Tottenham and a protracted saga.

Numerous factors combined for Mbeumo choosing United but the versatile forward admitted the persuasive Leny Yoro played a part after he bumped into the United defender on holiday.

Mbeumo was appearing on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast and explained: 'I just met, yeah, Lenny on holiday, so, yeah, obviously, he knew there was some rumours for me, for United.

'He told me it would be good if I came, I was saying I hope so as well.'

Mbeumo told Rio Ferdinand that he thinks Ollie Watkins is a 'complete player'

The 25-year-old added that he was calm on his first day with new team-mates having already bumped into Yoro on holiday: 'I was cool. Not nervous, but when I don't really know people, I'm not someone who is really loud or something.

'Fortunately for me, I knew Andre (Onana) and Leny, so I think it was nice to know at least some guys before and now I joined the summer tour I think it's really good to get to know everyone here, because you spend 24 hours a day with them, so I think it's really important.'

United have already bolstered their attacking resources for next season with the addition of Mbeumo and former Wolves man Matheus Cunha.

But they remain in the hunt for a striker, with Mail Sport's Chris Wheeler reporting that the top two targets are Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

It seems Mbeumo is already a fan of the Englishman having played with him at Brentford.

Ferdinand asked: 'What was good about his game that was good for you? Because I presume he's running in behind all the time, which opens space for the likes of yourself.

'Yeah, of course. I think he's really complete,' Mbeumo replied. 'He's like a complete striker. He can do a lot of things.

'He can drop with the set or going in behind. And I think this is really good for me or for winger because you can use his space to fit in there. And he can combine as well. So, I think it's really good.'

Watkins could leave Aston Villa this summer and United believe around £45m could be enough

Mbeumo and Ruben Amorim's squad are playing in the Premier League summer series

Although Aston Villa maintain that Watkins is not for sale, United believe a bid of around £45million may be enough to persuade them to sell the England striker.

United are weighing up a bid for Watkins who will be 30 in December but has extensive Premier League experience

Sesko would be a more difficult deal to pull off, with RB Leipzig valuing him at almost twice the price of Watkins and Newcastle keen to sign the Slovenian as well.

It remains to be seen whether Villa could be persuaded but clearly Mbeumo would be an advocate for the move.
