Alan Shearer has accused Tottenham of overspending as their £330million summer splurge has left them bottom of the Premier League.
Spurs splashed huge money on Sandro Tonali (£100m), Mateus Fernandes (£85m), Savio (£85m), Jan Paul van Hecke (£52m), and Tosin Adarabioyo (£7m) but have picked up just two points in five games.
Shearer has questioned the 'ability' of Tottenham's new signings, with pressure mounting on Roberto De Zerbi to get a tune out of them.
He told Betfair: 'I guess De Zerbi went into this summer with a list of players that he wanted and they have spent a fortune perhaps on all those players.
'I'm not sure the fees warrant the ability, but no one would have expected them to be bottom of the league.'
He added: 'I've said many times, that they brought the players in this summer, but they spent an absolute fortune on them. On everyone, I think.

'Van Hecke was a lot of money, Tonali was incredible money, Savio, and Marmoush (on loan) are others as well. It is a long, long three weeks for Tottenham and they simply have to start winning football games when they are back from the international break.
'All the bigger questions will start to be asked, if not already, if they don’t start winning football games very, very soon.
'I still think they'll have enough to stay up. They'll use the Aston Villa situation and what happened to them at the start of last season when I don't think they won in their first five games and they then managed to climb the league and qualify for Europe again.
'They will look at that and think there's still loads of football to be played, which there is, but there's a massive amount of work to be done at Spurs.
'I had them to finish in the top six this season and I am not sure that that will happen now.'
Tottenham did manage to register their first Premier League goals of the season late on in the 3-2 defeat by Aston Villa.
But that was only late on, when the game was lost and many of the fans had already left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
De Zerbi tore into his men after an abysmal performance in that defeat, saying: 'I am very disappointed, sad and frustrated with the performance.

'We can’t lose the game in this way, we can’t concede the second goal (a simple ball over the top), we can’t lose balance just because we are losing.
'I spoke with our four attackers in minute 51, I asked them to use their head, all second half I was telling people to be calm. But the second goal was incredible.'
Van Hecke fluffed his lines when Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki punted it long, allowing Nicolas Jackson to race through for the opposition's second goal.
De Zerbi added: 'We knew this season Aston Villa are playing 86 per cent more long balls than last season and we spoke in many meetings about it. Now we have to explain another game like (Newcastle) where we played the first half well, got to 60 minutes OK, and then we lose.'
The only match Spurs have won this campaign was a 5-1 thrashing of Championship side Charlton in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
This is the first time they have been bottom of the Premier League since January 2009.
They are second-bottom of the league goalscoring charts, just one goal ahead of Coventry, but have had the ninth-most shots, suggesting that finishing is an issue.
Steven Gerrard pointed to their striking issues on TNT Sports, saying: 'I think Spurs have improved in certain areas, but they've not got a poacher.
'They've not got a goalscorer. They've got some exciting players in the front line, but who is going to get you 20 goals?'
Their only natural striker is Dominic Solanke - with Richarlison exiled - and he has scored 12 goals across two full Premier League seasons with Spurs.
In the summer they sold young English striker Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough for £10m, potentially rising to £20m, and he has scored eight goals in 10 games there.
Tottenham will be looking to make amends quickly after the international break, with their first fixture back coming at Manchester United on October 10.
